SCREENINGS

WHAT ARE GRANITE SCREENINGS?
Granite screenings are a byproduct of the granite rock crushing process. They consist of very fine particles of crushed granite, typically smaller than 3/8 of an inch in size. These fine particles are the result of breaking down larger pieces of granite into smaller, more manageable sizes during the production of various stone products.
WHY DO WE THINK SCREENINGS ARE SUPERIOR TO FILL DIRT?
Granite screenings are often preferred over plain fill dirt for several reasons, especially in construction, landscaping, and paving projects. Here are some key advantages:

Stability and Compaction: Granite screenings are made from crushed granite rock and have a very fine texture. This allows them to compact more densely than fill dirt, providing a stable and solid base for various applications like pathways, patios, or under pavers.

Drainage: Granite screenings have better drainage properties compared to plain fill dirt. The fine particles allow water to pass through more easily, reducing the risk of water pooling or soil erosion, which can occur with fill dirt.

Durability: Granite is a hard and durable material. When used as a base material, it resists wear and tear, and it doesn't break down over time as some other materials might. This makes it an excellent choice for high-traffic areas.

Aesthetics: Granite screenings often have a more attractive appearance than plain fill dirt. They can give a clean and finished look to landscaping projects, making them suitable for use in visible areas.

Weed Suppression: The fine texture and density of granite screenings can help suppress weed growth, unlike fill dirt, which may contain seeds and organic matter that encourage weed growth.

Reduced Settling: Because granite screenings compact tightly, they are less prone to settling over time, which can lead to uneven surfaces. Fill dirt, on the other hand, may settle unevenly, leading to potential issues with the stability and appearance of the surface above it.
